Stewarding at Solfest
We are looking for a dedicated team who are willing to work with us to
provide a safe and enjoyable atmosphere for everyone involved.
Stewarding is hard work but enjoyable. You also get a free
ticket and two free meals!
However there are some terms and conditions attached. Can you answer 'Yes' to the following questions:
- Are you happy to work two six-hour shifts over the course of the weekend? First shift starts at 8am Friday 22 August and the last shift ends 8pm on Monday 25 August. We try to take your preferences into account when building the rota, however as you can imagine it’s impossible to please everyone all the time. Mutual swaps with another person on another shift are possible.
- Are you able to send a guaranteed DEPOSIT cheque for £80 (per steward) that will only be cashed if you don’t turn up for your shifts?
We hold this cheque as a bond, to encourage everyone to play fair. If you turn up for your two shifts WE WILL NOT CASH YOUR CHEQUE, and it will be destroyed after the festival. A guaranteed cheque is one that has the account holders address written on the back along with the long number on the middle of their cheque guarantee card.
- Are you able to send two passport photos? (For your steward’s badge).
- Are you able to be at the festival site by 8pm on Thursday 21st August for the steward’s safety briefing – or make a special arrangement with me to arrive late?
- Are you definitely able to commit to turning up for your shifts even if you are tired, or it’s raining, or you’re hung over, or you’ve had an argument with your partner, or any other lame excuse!?
- Are you able to be of generally cheery disposition and get on with whatever needs to be done even if it’s dirty/boring/hard work?
- Are you 16 years old or over – or coming to steward with your parent or guardian (e.g. aunt or uncle or granny or friend who is an adult)?
- Do you have access to an email address where we can send you information (this can be your own address or from a friend), we just need to be able to send you some instructions and a briefing pack.
- Lastly – are you not on my black list??? This means did you apply to be a steward in the past, then not turn up for your shifts without letting me know? As you can imagine having folk not turn up for their shift leaves the festival in a potentially unsafe situation and causes all sorts of trouble with the Licensing Authorities. If you sign up to be a Volunteer Steward you must, must, must turn up for your two shifts (or let me know) – enough said!
If you think you may need to confess any previous indiscretions then feel free to use the section on the next page where we ask about skills and experience.
What is the Early Bird Team? This means being on site ready to start work at 8am on Wednesday 20 August. You do four 6-hour shifts
rather than two but you finish on the Friday afternoon and the festival is all yours! There is a bit of a health warning with this team,
in that it does tend to be pretty hard graft – but really good fun, with endless cups of tea and biscuits from us. If you think you’re up
for it then tick the box but don’t say you weren’t warned!
